Abby Moreno i Gallego

When we claim that you will be working with talented professionals at NN, Abby Moreno is living proof. Her dedication and continuous hunger for development and delivery amaze everyone she crosses paths with. Although Abby has been with NN for a brief period, her work and attitude have made a significant impact. "The trust NN places in us allows me to work confidently and make decisions," she says. Abby lives in Spain and works as a Senior DevOps and Cloud Engineer, balancing this role with being a Scrum Master as well. "Mastering organising is key in balancing my responsibilities." From Young Tech Enthusiast to Cloud Engineer 
Growing up in València, Spain, Abby always had a passion for technology. "At 15, my parents bought me my first computer, and it became a way out for my introverted way of living," she recalls. This computer, assembled from scratch by a friend of her sister, sparked her interest in computer science. A game called “Monkey Island” further fuelled her curiosity, especially its feature of displaying the real-time clock. "I wanted to understand how a PC game could know the real day and hour, and that’s when I understood what a software engineer does," she explains. 

Abby pursued a degree at Universitat Politècnica de València - Campus d’Alcoi, where she thrived despite past bullying. "Being the only girl in my class, I received immense support from both students and professors," she says. This supportive environment helped her finally believe in herself and realize her potential. 

Abby had a dream to work in cybersecurity. After college, she looked for opportunities in this direction. As a junior, she lacked job opportunities, and as Spain was still in a big economic crisis in 2012, she needed to start making money and could not wait any longer. As Abby stated, "Changing my mindset at that time was a victory," and when she landed a job in consultancy as an infrastructure & operations IT professional, she realised that infrastructure, architecture, and operations were her strengths. Abby started to build her career in this direction. 

Working in banking and investment sectors exposed Abby to outdated systems and technologies. She was looking for a company that would allow her to level up. When NN reached out to her about a potential job, it was the right challenge! Abby says, "After having a couple of interviews with the tech team, I saw that the tech stack, the kind of company, and the teams fit my needs. The expertise requirement was going to push me to be harder, stronger, and better to fill perfectly in the role NN needed, especially with the cloud skill I was lacking experience in." But as you may guess, Abby was determined to improve quickly. 

Finding her place at NN 
From the start, Abby's dedication to continuous learning and certification set her apart. "I'm always refreshing myself by studying and certifying myself," she explains and adds “NN has given me the platform to level up to a modern technology and grow.’’  

One of Abby's standout achievements at NN was organising the Greek business unit. This project involved migrating numerous applications to the cloud, reducing costs, and improving the overall infrastructure. "This project was a daunting challenge, but my determination and expertise shone through," she reflects. This accomplishment not only solidified her place at NN but also displayed her growth as a Cloud Engineer. "NN offers plenty of opportunities to those willing to take them," she says with enthusiasm. 

When asked about the best part of working at NN, she says, "For me, the most enjoyable part is my team. I don't know how, but completely different people have come together to support each other in an incredible way. It's like we understand each other as if we've known each other since childhood. This strong sense of team spirit and collaboration has pushed me to not be afraid to be myself, to work as I like without fearing failure, knowing they will be there to support and teach me." 

Also, Abby highlights, "Additionally, being allowed to work 100% remotely gives me the flexibility to make many decisions. Knowing that we are seen as NN's cloud representatives places a trust on our shoulders that I am determined to uphold. This collaborative environment and mutual trust have been key to our success and personal growth." 

Abby outside of work 
Abby finds joy in a variety of hobbies that keep her energised. "My cats keep me grounded, relax me when I'm stressed, and teach me that the more grateful you are, the better and easier things come, and in the end, it comes back to you." Gardening is another passion for Abby. "Whether it's outdoor, indoor, vegetables, or fruit trees, anything related to the land roots me to it too." 

She also loves sports, particularly fitness and aerial silks. "Aerial silks have taught me that fear is mostly in your mind." Abby enjoys trekking, swimming, and climbing, always seeking new ways to stay active. Abby is also into music and live gigs! "At least one live show per month. The excitement of buying tickets, choosing the venue, and experiencing the energy of live performances together is something we both cherish."
